Cliff of the Penestin Gold Mine
Camping Les Embruns near Pénestin in South Morbihan invites you to discover: Cliff of the Gold Mine in Pénestin.
For a long time, agriculture was the dominant activity at Pénestin, close to that of the salt workers.
The development of a gold mine made a great noise at the end of the 19th century. The yield being very low, it stopped at the time of the 1st world war. It remains the name, attached to the largest beach of the town (2 kmS long), whose cliff takes, at sunset, the shades of the precious metal.
The cliff dates from the Quaternary and is unique on the Atlantic coast. It is the treat of national geologists. Geological outings are organized on site.
